I am fostering a mommy cat and her litter of 6 kittens. The kittens are only 4 weeks old at most. When I got them they were all infested with fleas. I used Dawn soap on the kittens which helped but did not eliminate the fleas. I was unable to bathe mama cat, she has a temper. I called the vet and the vet told be to bathe the kittens in flea and tick shampoo and use frontline or a similar product on mama cat. I don’t think this is right. Those kittens are way too young to be bathed in flea removers! At least thats what I think. But I did get frontline for the mama cat against my own judgment. The instructions on the shampoo is that it should not be used on kittens under 12 weeks, pregnant or nursing cat. The instructions on the frontline said the same thing. Could the vet have been mistaken? Did I mess up using the frontline on mama cat? I still wont use any products on the kittens that I am not sure about.
A VET told me to use the frontline on the mama and the flea and tick shampoo on the kittens.

ok i work at a petsmart and i have come to notice that many ppl dont know alot about flea and tick issues which is crucial during this part of the year.
a few things ppl should know is do not put powders and drops on ur animals at the same time or within quite some time of the other. u should only use one product or u will make ur pet extremely sick and could in some cases kill it
powders: powders can be extremely messy and dont have a great success rate.
drops: products such as biospot have been known to give many animals skin conditions as well as causing seizures in cats.
HARTZ IS BAD!!!
flea collars: dont do a whole lot of good. they just get the neck and u end up getting most of the poison urself or someone else who touches thepet therefore not really being effective.
things that do work really well are items such as Frontline, Advantage, Advantix, and Revolution.
and u should only trust products from ur vet bcz most products u can buy in
a petstore wont do u much good and aren’t reliable.
now if many of u disagree with what im saying fine. and im sure that some of the store brands do work for some ppl im just hoping to inform ppl of what is and what isn’t that great to use on pets.
i dont want to see another cat or dog die bcz the owners were never informed about flea and tick problems
oh and revolution also helps prevent heartworms which is another handy thing to take care of.
and actually frontline isn’t the best revolution is.
oh and yes sooner has a point while u can buy frontline from petco DONT DO IT! their supplies are not assured and since they are massed produced to go to all PetCo’s are therefore not very reliable vets are reliable……..except when it comes to Science Diet

i have a 4 year old nutured cat. he’s an indoor cat since we live in an apartment.i’ve been using bio-spot on him every month to prevent fleas and ticks, but the bio-spot makes him loose hair at the site of application. and it seems to make him sick.the vet said he has food allergies, so i changed his food. i’d like to know if someone can recommend a flea and tick treatment thats not to harsh on his skin, but effective and not too expensive. thanks so much.
